Seeking HIM

Updated: May 14, 2020

In 2020 we are inviting you to join us on an exploration of what it means to live a life of seeking God wholeheartedly. Through this lens of SEEKING we are going to be embarking on an exciting journey: Seeking HIM, seeking JUSTICE and seeking FREEDOM.

Because where else could this begin, but with seeking Jesus?

Just Love is about Jesus (as is everything if you look hard enough). But what does this mean and why do we believe it?

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:28-33

We're going back to the basics, laying a strong foundation with the hope of building something really beautiful in Just Love Brum that will stand the test of time and ultimately be pleasing to, and a reflection of, the Father's heart.

Our incredible local coordinator (and theology whizz kid) Calum Mullett has taken the time below to delve into exactly what it is we believe at Just Love, what we believe God has done for us and the calling that that unites us in as believers.

"Just Love is a non-denominational group for all Christians.

We believe the Bible is the infallible word of God, and hence should be taken seriously. And if we are going to take the Bible seriously then it's clear that God is calling Christians to love one another. To us this looks like serving the poor, the weak and the vulnerable and protecting creation with our time, money and lifestyles.

Just Love subscribes to the Evangelical Alliance basis of Faith, a great summary of Christian belief.

Evangelical comes from the Greek word euangelion, which translates literally as good news. This means that we believe it's clear that the central message of Jesus is that God became incarnate, lived, died and rose again to deal with humanity's greatest problem, sin. This is our greatest hope and joy!

Even though we are made in God’s image we have chosen to disobey our creator and define for ourselves what is right or wrong to justify our selfish behaviour.

Subsequently, humans messed up Gods creation, big time.

Jesus’ death on the cross in our place serves as an atonement so that we can be restored to right relationship with God and one another and so that the spiritual powers of rebellion are defeated.

Freed from the power of sin to drag us to the grave, forgiven for our mistakes and redeemed to how human beings were created by God to be, we are called to serve.

We are called to serve the messy, sinful world we live in, prioritising those in need and in vulnerable situations.

We can do this only by His Spirit, who transforms us to be more like Him. This is the gift of grace we have in Jesus.

God hasn’t just forgiven us so we can keep living life as before.

Even though we deserve no share in his kingdom he has adopted us as his sons and daughters calling us to serve others as we approach the day when God will usher in the new creation, and sin and the power of evil will finally be put to an end."

- Calum Mullett

This is the God we serve who has so lavishly served us on the cross. It is a joy for us to partner with him in establishing his kingdom here on earth through serving. Jesus gives us a hope not to labour in vain, but to invest in something eternal. But we believe that apart from him we can do nothing. This is why we are kicking of our SEEKING series with seeking HIM.

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5

This month we will be focusing on prayer and fasting to seek God's heart for freedom and justice in our personal lives, for Birmingham and for the nations.

But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream! Amos 5:24

One of many things we love about the Just Love movement is how it focuses not on denomination or background, but on uniting together to see the goodness of God in the land of the living.

We are the church, the body of Christ both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers — given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit’s gifts to worship God and proclaim the gospel, promoting justice and love.

If this is something that gets your heart pumping keep your eyes open on our Facebook and Instagram for how you can unite with the body of Christ in seeking Him, seeking Justice and seeking Freedom for yourself, for Birmingham and for the nations this 2020.

Thank you so much for reading this post! We hope it's got you as excited as it has us about starting on this journey of seeking God together.

You do not want to miss this.

Much love,

Just Love Brum x
